Brigham Street is a development for One Manchester, bringing 24 new homes to East Manchester. An innovative site using timber framed construction for the houses and a light gauge steel frame for the apartments. 

Feedback from the Considerate Constructors Scheme says, “It is acknowledged that this is a family company, employing ideas, disciplines, and practices synonymous with T1 contractors. Working with One Manchester who have adopted the TOMS format for measuring social values is a very positive experience, the quality and extent of the measured elements of the community is an excellent example and should be openly promoted. Environmentally there are going to be some very credible gains in carbon reduction through the construction activities and choice of construction technique.”

The development is surrounded on all four sides by residential properties, and there has been a real focus on engaging with the local community and keeping the neighbours well informed during key events such as piling. 

Works began on site in October and the Considerate Constructor Team has recently completed their first inspection, recognising the site as excellent for:

  • Respecting the community
  • Caring for the environment
  • Valuing our workforce

With an overall score of 42 out of 45.

Feedback from the report highlights the following as excellent practice.

  • Strong corporate focus on the care of employees and workforce through well-being and training 
  • Community notice board clearly displayed, with newsletters available. 
  • Apprentices on site including a joiner and trainee site manager.
  • Work placement bricklayer in collaboration with One Manchester’s Apprentice Scheme.
  • Many of the construction techniques being employed in building the new homes are environmentally effective, two elements of major components manufactured off-site effectively reducing waste and site carbon emissions.
  • The site team follow first class practices and disciplines to reduce carbon.
  • CHAS Elite accreditation in place.
